Just wanted to tell the new users on the #forkiverse that despite the people yelling at you that the word 'fork' is being misused, that the fediverse hates anything popular or mainstream-ish, that a New York Times reporter joining the fediverse is a disaster, and that if you don't follow certain unwritten rules you will be shunned...there are lots of friendly people here too.
Those folks are being unwelcoming because, as early adopters, they feel they own this place (they don't ).

*Hashtags: Use em to fill and filter your feed and get found. Add to sensitive topics like politics to help others filter for their mental health.
* You're the algorithm: There's no algo pushing stuff, so Boost Hard: Boost Harder with a Vengeance! Favoriting is for humans, not algo's.
*Alt text matters: There's a lotta people with #accessibility needs, so many only boost images with #AltText.

We're only on the #TrixieVerse at the moment...
Very excited to see that #NYTimes podcasters @kevin and @Casey created a Mastodon instance, the #forkiverse!
Mastodon is often presented in media as weird and scary, having familiar names behind an instance can give fans a degree of comfort when making the change. More fanbases should do it!
