Just wanted to tell the new users on the #forkiverse that despite the people yelling at you that the word 'fork' is being misused, that the fediverse hates anything popular or mainstream-ish, that a New York Times reporter joining the fediverse is a disaster, and that if you don't follow certain unwritten rules you will be shunned...there are lots of friendly people here too.

Those folks are being unwelcoming because, as early adopters, they feel they own this place (they don't ).
