And our last question of the week:
Q8. It's photo time. Do you have any end-of-January photos, cycling related or not, to share from the past week? Tell us about it!

@ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A8: A picture from one of the "bike downs" at the memorial ride for #Natenom ( #NatenomGedenkfahrt) as mentioned in my A1. You can find more of them at both of these hashtags. This picture shows @x_tof's #Hexabike.
@ascentale @bikenite A8. We had almost 100 riding for #AlexPretti in San Jose today. I counted over seventy in this photo and there more next to me and behind me. #BikeNite #BikeTooter

Got to love the crazy Dutch - not only do they and the Belgians have an amazing set of bike lanes - they have bike path specific waste paper bins.
@MatthewNewell @ascentale @bikenite
I found some similar ones part of the way up the north side of the Col du Galibier (the sheets of metal on top are angled inwards to deflect any thrown rubbish into the bin):
@ascentale @bikenite A8. I always have trouble getting these shots in time, but I have not seen any bakfiets or longbikes for family riding here. I've only seen bicycles that have baby seats or that have a pad added on top of a rear rack or other modifications to the standard upright bike.
It's not an uncommon sight to see parents & children or even two school chums riding the same bike. #Albania #BikeNite
@ascentale @bikenite #BikeNIte A8. RIP Alex Pretti, pictured here with his Surly Ogre. nobody who rides a Surly can possibly be a bad person.
Also, the view out my front door this week, post shovelling.

A friend of a friend started making cool mini baskets
@ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A8 Wild turkeys on our lane yesterday.
@ascentale @bikenite
First time on the bike since our SUnday 7 inches. We haven't reached 20 degrees F since then even in the heat of the day, so everything gets packed down and oh, sidewalks are cleared except ... where people plow from the streets.
I rode a whole 0.7 miles to my friend's house and then wrapped around the block to pick up some brews and decided that NO, I'm not going to do the ride tomorrow... what with housemate's shattered ankle, I'm being extra careful. IT's just too easy to really mess things up on ice and snow. There are other ways to build solidarity and make change... But I ***May*** go out there and shove that stupid blockage out into the street, where there is a major sheet of ice already.
A8. Hibernated the past 2 days because I didn't dress warmly enough a couple of days ago.
@cainmark @ascentale @bikenite My doc specifically warned against "hibernating like a bear" -- staying warm inside while snacking and drinking all day -- during the cold months.

From last week or so, when the outside world disappeared behind the most intense snowstorm I remember since I was a kid.

We got a lot of snow in that big storm so trails have to be repacked. Getting a foot of powdery snow to pack in below freezing temps isn’t easy. For my part two days of stomping with snowshoes and one day “tire packing” and testing some grooming.

I don't know how to ride on ice and snow and don't want to learn, so my bikes are in storage until things warm up.
Also in the garage is Mank, a semi-feral cat I care for as best I can. Glaring suspiciously at me from the box with a heating pad.
@ascentale @bikenite A8. Got this uncommon Horned Grebe at my town's reservoir on a frigid afternoon. Not on a bike. #birding #bikenite
@DataAngler @ascentale @bikenite Not on a bike *that we can see* ... no telling what's going on under the water there.
@ascentale @bikenite A8:
Bag of chicken feed in a bike? 40kg of feed is definitely heavier than all the crud I normally carry. But because I hope to move soon I only bought two bags rather than three. Bike did not like 4 the time I tried that. Went suspiciously bendy.
@ascentale @bikenite A8: Our town has mostly small businesses, hard hit by today’s walkout. I walked the full length of town today, stopping in to thank people for being good humans, paying in cash as they all asked, and sharing stories. It was awesome. And I spied this cool pizza cutter! (Didn’t get it)
One of that shop’s regular employees travels exclusively by bike
@ascentale @bikenite A8: I was in Vegas for work all week but my room faced the Sphere. It had some Shephard Fairey work on it - not sure if he's doing something on the inside too but this was a shot of the exterior. Didn't get to ride a bike all week though 😭 #BikeNite
@ascentale @bikenite A8: So I misplaced my pocket bike tool that lives on my bike and even though I knew _for sure_ that I would find it (and was correct, I have), I went looking at the LBS for a second one and Bothell Ski and Bike had this fucken adorable little all-metal set and as soon as I figured out that the weird smooth rectangle was for my PEDAL CRANKS I was all
GOTTA HAVE IT
so now I do :D
