The expression on the animal's face is so perfect. They're just like that. The color scheme is really cool, also, in my opinion to be able to make something interesting with those colors is difficult. The human's body adds contrast but doesn't look like it's there to add contrast?
Max Frey did others of these fantasy animals, I think I've seen some that are underwater, also.
