@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu  ·  activity timestamp yesterday

Your data. Your feed. Your control.

The fediverse was built on communities, not corporations, deciding how they interact.

The Digital Services Act now brings that same accountability to the rest of the web.

Text-based visual stating: “Big Tech doesn’t control this feed anymore. In Europe… You do!” with an underline separating the two lines, and the European Commission logo in the bottom corner.

@EUCommission

#chatcontrol #digitalomnibus and #ageverification directly conflict with the decentralized, privacy-respecting internet the fediverse represents. The fediverse thrives on:

Anonymous/pseudonymous participation
End-to-end encryption options
No centralized identity verification
User autonomy

You can't have both "your data, your control" and mandatory ID checks plus content scanning infrastructure.

@EUCommission EU Commission preaching "Your data. Your feed. Your control" is hilarious. DSA is Stasi 2.0, forcing platforms to censor whatever Brussels labels "harmful". Chat control scans every message, ends privacy. EU questions speech, borders, innovation, sovereignty, but never its unelected commissars power-tripping over 450 million people. Who voted for this digital surveillance empire?

@EUCommission

Interesting to see whether this will be true also regarding Chat Control (CSAM) and the EU. I think it is something very destructive to even consider.

How did someone think that it is a good idea to start mass surveillance on people's privacy, and leave a backdoor that can be used by criminals?

AI scanning and flagging messages is basically the same that China is doing all the time. So better stop moralizing then, if you are actually going to do the same. I am not for it.

@EUCommission yes, that is good.

We would all, also appreciate it, if the EU Commission decides to protect our privacy as per EU Charter and moves against Chat Control.

Protecting children and privacy shouldn't happen at the expense of the other.

We can understand that article 52 states : “Subject to the principle of proportionality, limitations may be made only if they are necessary and genuinely meet objectives of
general interest recognised by the Union or the need to protect the rights and freedoms of others.”

Infringing on the rights of people to protect children may seem commendable (?) but the objectives of protecting the rights and freedoms of children are not met by these measures either.

Unfortunately, the rights of children are also at risk because age assurance measures are left up to third parties that misuse this data. It only takes a single misuse incident for such data to be online forever, both for children and adults, who then fall prey to AI exploitation.

Exploitation such as, undressing via dedicated AI models all the way to biometric surveillance. We can't allow people to live in fear of exploitation, as we have seen in America (ICE) where such data is indeed being misused to target individuals and often so by racial discrimination.

(It's actually surprising how much energy they put into this. If they'd only invest a fraction of that energy in actually addressing the issues everyone would be better off, them included...)
