Yesterday over lunch, I talked with my kids about architecture in Paris, and why they’ve got such nice wide boulevards.

That led to Haussmann, and to the French Revolution. So I ended up sharing the classic quote attributed to Diderot:

“Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.”

"Mommy's made you pancakes today!" I jovially set them in front of my daughter and sat down for my own.

"Mommy, Mommy, pass me the syrup!"

"Say the magic word~!" I drew it out.

"Abracadabra!"
