For #ParadiseLost, I spoke with five individuals who grew up in SW #Florida and were around to witness the formation of Sarasota’s hardcore #punk scene in the mid-1980s. Within these interviews is some nostalgia tempered with the harsh reality of racism, violence, dysfunctional family dynamics and so on. Memory is always incomplete, and the interviewees push up against that limitation continuously as they try to recall the events of 40 years ago. This #NanGoldin quote seemed relevant. #zines
As a founding Confederate state that continued its policies of White Supremacy and Racism even after its defeat in the American Civil War, this doesn't surprise me at all. Once a piece of 💩 always a piece of 💩 #Florida #US #Racism #WhiteSupremacy #Hatred #Education #Research #History
