Good Idea: Keep Android Open
In August 2025, Google announced that as of September 2026, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google.
If you care about keeping Android open, start by installing F-Droid from https://f-droid.org or Droid-ify from https://droidify.app/ on your Android devices, because the more people who use alternative app stores, the harder they are to sideline.
(If you need closed source apps you can find them on the Aurora Store https://store.auroraoss.com/ )
Share your thoughts directly with Google through the Android developer verification requirements survey at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfN3UQeNspQsZCO2ITkdzMxv81rJDEGGjO-UIDDY28Rz_GEVA/viewform?pli=1,
speak up on social media or your own blog, and point people to https://keepandroidopen.org so others know what is happening. And if you see suspicious posts defending the policy on forums or social platforms, question them instead of letting them slide.
You can also contribute improvements to the project page at https://github.com/keepandroidopen/keepandroidopen.github.io/blob/main/src/content/pages/en/index.md,
and add your name to the petition at https://www.change.org/p/stop-google-from-limiting-apk-file-usage to show broader public support.
