But I honestly don't get the dislike of autonomous delivery vehicles

Autonomous delivery vehicles are a manifestation of a physical space XY problem ( https://xyproblem.info/ ):
X-Problem: People want to get good delivered to their residences, but there's no effective logistics infrastructure around, to do it efficiently.
Y-Solution to Y-Problem: There are not enough drivers; If we could hack up an army of delivery drones we could parallelize delivery.
Actual X-Solution: Build logistics infrastructure.
