At 4pm the snow was relentless. We had a hint of the blue hour left, and a chance to play ICM with the snow fall :)

These frames hopefully give you a sense of what is happening behind that scene. It's getting very dark, so there's considerable contrast between the snow flakes caught in the light, and the night around us.
I've included one shot of the jetty, which catches a smudge of light from the surrounding environs, and the volume of snow painting in the rest of the scene. I'm using a Harlowe Blade 10 propped on a $20 light stand that I bought in Kathmandu 馃槉 It's just a very clean LED light that lets me set daylight or any other temp/colour I might desire.

@ewen may I ask what was the exposure time in the second shot?
I really want to try something like this in low light snowfall.

The really slow ones are about 1 second but mostly I try for 1/4 or 1/8th. Just depends on the speed of the snow. This is with a 40mm lens, so there's room for the snow to move through the frame. I love when there's just enough light in the background to expose for a scene, but then use the lamp in the foreground to bring out the snow.
