I've decided that, as with many tricks of memory, I don't have an accurate recollection of life before enshittification. In my mind the internet and keyboards worked, phones were flawless, software a joy, the sun brighter. That's only a partial story, and doesn't account for other benefits we take for granted now (like translation), and anyway this is the hand we're dealt: retraction, a dark age. We may as well get a wimple and quill and try to do it as gracefully as we can. Well, and a dagger.
@Tarnport I will say, a Python script or a compile of a C/C++ application took ages to run. Today I just use go run to substitute both and keep forgetting how slow it used to be.
These ARM-based processors, too. Having a laptop with me everywhere, and the digital flexibility that entrails, that weighs little over a kilogram, lasts 20 hours, and crunches numbers faster than some datacentre monsters is quite an improvement to the 2000s!
@Tarnport Plus. My first digital camera had 3 Megapixels and took almost a second to shoot a frame. I sometimes notice when I try zooming in on old pictures to 1:1 pixel reproduction, like I would on a modern one, and almost nothing happens.
