Wrote my first (working) flake.
I still don't understand most of it, but I managed to successfully modify the template.
I'm still quite confused by what this thing actually does and why things (appear to) have be specified 29485 times instead of once.
But I think this is already good enough as a start. Right?
(Also is there an eta for when flakes are GA and no longer need the experimental features flags?

Thanks, also just fyi I named the nixpkgs intentionally uniquely as I copied it from my systems configuration where I wanted to have the option to pull in packages from multiple versions (e.g. most from one but a handfull from another to work around broken ones or get newer features from unstable).
And from playing with your suggestion I suppose the hook is getting executed once when entering? So having some info of what it is is probably good. But is there a PS1 alternative?
@agowa338 I usually don't like this kind of printing to the screen just because I entered an environment, as I have other ways of knowing I'm in a virtual environment and it would also print during automated execution of commands inside the environment, which interferes with output redirection. I would say, don't do any of that and configure your shell, on the host, to detect and change the PS1 instead.
Yea, but how would I detect having entered such an environment to change the PS1? That's exactly what I was trying to say with the last sentence (sorry charlimit so kinda abbreviated it)
@agowa338 ah, nix declares some variables inside the environment. Run `env | grep -i nix` to see what you get that you can use to identify you're inside a nix shell.
