I seriously can't believe it's been 11 years since I took this photo. Anyway, I wrote a short thing about it today: https://lwpetersen.substack.com/p/aurora-spiral-revisited

Aurora Spiral Revisited

Lately, most of my free time has gone into quieter work: cleaning up my portfolio, tightening captions, SEO work on my websites, and slowly pecking away at a few long-overdue wildflower guides.
Green aurora borealis forming a large, smooth spiral across a dark night sky. The aurora appears as layered, curved bands of light, with brighter green arcs sweeping inward toward the center of the spiral and softer, diffuse glow filling the surrounding sky. Faint stars are visible through darker gaps between the auroral bands. Along the bottom of the image, tall spruce trees stand in silhouette, their branches heavily coated with snow. The aurora casts a muted green light over the treetops, while the sky above remains deep blue-black beyond the glowing spiral.
