Can't recommend this enough: David F. Walker and Marcus Kwame Anderson's "The Black Panther Party, A Graphic Novel History." Well-researched and written, won a 2022 Eisner Award (and I think Will would have loved it). It's a complicated history. So many names from my childhood whose actions have largely been forgotten/ignored.

Cover of the graphic novel "The Black Panther Party." The title cuts across the center of the cover at a moderate angle. Above the title is a depiction of a very famous Blair Stapp photograph of Huey Newton seated in a rattan chair. Below the title are images of Bobby Seale, Kathleen Cleaver, and Fred Hampton.
