Keane points to obvious parallels to something that happened during the Reagan administration. Four American women, three of them nuns, were raped, murdered, and buried in shallow graves in El Salvador.
When this happened — the Pentagon-connected and CIA-connected national police force were later found to have committed the atrocity — Jeane Kirkpatrick, a top foreign policy advisor to Reagan, and Alexander Haig, Reagan's Secretary of State, lied about the murder of the four women.
Kirkpatrick claimed that "the nuns were not just nuns. The nuns were also political activists.” They deserved to be raped and murdered and their bodies dumped into shallow graves….
