I hope everybody had a lovely Christmas!
I received a bountiful crop of records as gifts from very kind people this year, so Ive got lots to listen to heading into the new year!
I’m starting with this one: 2xLP version of Distressed Countryfolk, by the very underrated Jazz Butcher.
This edition came with a bonus album called The Conspiracy L.P., which plays at 45rpm.
Pat Fish was a great musician and songwriter, and deserves more credit and more flowers.
In the case of Distressed Gentlefolk, it is considered by many (including Fish himself) to be a very BAD record; reflective of a very bad time, pretentious, wildly unfocused, drowned in alcohol, etc…
Despite its faults, it will always be my favorite. It’s weird & unbalanced, yes, but still a very fun record.
