I already avoid the subscription/streaming economy as much as I can. I strive for digital autonomy. I #selfhost everything I can. I avoid LLMs like the plague. I avoid plastic like the plague. (Yes, I avoid the plague like the plague too. #maskup )
I try not to participate in the surveillance economy. All my appliances are smart enough to mind their own business. We've been railroaded into smartphones like everyone else, but we run a privacy-centric OS on older phones. We avoid processed foods. We burn clean energy, even if we can't afford solar yet - our town makes carbon-free electricity available at a fairly steep cost.
And yet, none of this matters if we don't all move together on it.
This feels incredibly important for people to read and understand.
