One thing I'm liking about #Vivaldi is that frequently, though not always, when I say to myself, "Hmm, I wish <x> worked like <y> in Vivaldi instead of the way it does," and then I go look in Vivaldi's settings, it turns out that there's a setting to enable the behavior that I want.
Example: I like the browser settings to open in a tab, not in a separate window. It turns out separate window is the default in Vivaldi, but by toggling one checkbox I make them open in a tab. Nice.
With Firefox, Chrome, and Chromium, I can click anywhere in the tab bar that doesn't have anything else in it to grab and drag the browser window. Unfortunately, with #Vivaldi (on GNOME on Linux, at least), you can't click and drag the window between the "+" button for creating new tabs and the window control buttons on the right. This is an annoying bug that will force me to retrain my muscle memory for no good reason.
Interestingly, I can no longer duplicate the problem I described in https://federate.social/@jik/115743809787979380. I am now able to grab and drag the #Vivaldi window anywhere blank in the top bar. Weird!
PSA: Our roadmap for 2026:
The focus for us at @Vivaldi has always been to do what our users want us to do. So we have spent time on things like:
- Work spaces and tab stacks
- Tab tiling
- Mouse gestures
- Customizable keyboard shortcuts
- Tracker and ad blocker
- Panels and Web panels
- Cross platform, encrypted sync function
- Advanced bookmarking function with speed dials
- Customizable dashboard
- Massive customization options in general.
- Notes functionality
We have also added stuff like this in our desktop browser
- Mail client
. Calendar
- Feed reader
- Proton VPN integration
Not everyone uses everything we make, but that is also the point. The fact that we listen to special requests is IMHO a feature and not a bug. We value power users as well.
On the other hand, we have stayed away from certain things. Things like:
- Blockchain / Crypto currencies
- AI
You can find us on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS. You can even find us in many cars running Android Automotive.
We are not the largest browser company in the world, but we are dedicated and we are growing. More and more are giving us a try. Have you?
