and while we’re fucking here, what insular group are you being purity tested out of again? cause if you talk to people outside of tech or read any of the polling that’s been done, you’ll realize very quickly that the general public fucking hates AI. they might not know why on a technical level but they don’t have to, they know a massive grift when they see one.

A work that bridges media archaeology and visual culture studies argues that the Internet has emerged as a mass medium by linking control with freedom and democracy.
How has the Internet, a medium that thrives on control, been accepted as a medium of freedom? Why is freedom increasingly indistinguishable from paranoid control? In Control and Freedom, Wendy Hui Kyong Chun explores the current political and technological coupling of freedom with control by tracing the emergence of the Internet as a mass medium. The parallel (and paranoid) myths of the Internet as total freedom/total control, she says, stem from our reduction of political problems into technological ones.
Drawing on the theories of Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault and analyzing such phenomena as Webcams and face-recognition technology, Chun argues that the relationship between control and freedom in networked contact is experienced and negotiated through sexuality and race. She traces the desire for cyberspace to cyberpunk fiction and maps the transformation of public/private into open/closed. Analyzing "pornocracy," she contends that it was through cyberporn and the government's attempts to regulate it that the Internet became a marketplace of ideas and commodities. Chun describes the way Internet promoters conflated technological empowerment with racial empowerment and, through close examinations of William Gibson's Neuromancer and Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell, she analyzes the management of interactivity in narratives of cyberspace.
The Internet's potential for democracy stems not from illusory promises of individual empowerment, Chun argues, but rather from the ways in which it exposes us to others (and to other machines) in ways we cannot control. Using fiber optic networks—light coursing through glass tubes—as metaphor and reality, Control and Freedom engages the rich philosophical tradition of light as a figure for knowledge, clarification, surveillance, and discipline, in order to argue that fiber-optic networks physically instantiate, and thus shatter, enlightenment.

1/3 Leider konnte ich nicht in die USA einreisen, da die von der US‑Administration neu aufgebauten hohen Einreisehürden für mich inakzeptabel geworden sind. Mein einfacher ESTA‑Antrag wurde ohne Angabe von Gründen zurückgewiesen. Danach wurde mir angeboten, einen Visumantrag zu stellen.
2/3 Ich versuchte, die umfangreichen Angaben auszufüllen, was mich viele Stunden Zeit kostete, alle Daten über mich, meine verstorbenen Eltern, meine Kinder, meine aktuellen und ehemaligen Arbeitsverhältnisse, meine Absichten, in die USA zu kommen, und vieles andere zusammenzutragen.

Ich brauch mal euer Feedback, Leute. Meine Tochter hat mir gestern berichtet, dass zwei muslimische Mädchen in ihrer Klasse nicht am Sportunterricht teilnehmen dürfen, weil sie sich weigern, ihr Kopftuch abzunehmen. Deshalb müssen sie am Rand sitzen und bekommen schlechte Noten.
Mir ist, ehrlich gesagt, die Kinnlade runtergefallen. Es sind m.W. Mädchen aus dem Kinderheim, die haben in ihrem Leben sicherlich schlimm genug gelitten. Ich würde ihnen gerne helfen, aber wie?
Update zu dieser Geschichte. Ich habe vorsichtig beim Klassenlehrer angefragt, ob es denn überhaupt stimmen könne, was mir meine Tochter erzählt hat. Der Lehrer meinte, dass die Mädchen aus Sicherheitsgründen auf der Bank sitzen müßten, bis die Eltern Sporthijabs gekauft hätten. Auf meine Frage, ob sie dafür Geld hätten oder ob ich mit einer Spende helfen könne, meinte er, die seien schon bestellt. 🤞 Ich setz mir mal n Reminder für in 2 Wochen. Another part of the HSC router done 🎉
Printed the Z-Axis frame yesterday, so today (the last two hours or so) was print clean up, assembly and modification of components to make them work day.
The inserted nuts on the Linear shafts were a little too big, so I filed them down (rather than restarting an 11h print)
The linear shaft I had was of course way to long, and so I had to cut it down with a dremel.
Also learned a neat trick today. Probably just makes me one of the lucky 10000, but still want to mention it:
PLA is not fracture resistant. So removing supports is often easily done by just giving it a sharp whack. That's how I removed the support on all the dimensionally critical holes. Obviously your part geometry needs to allow you to concentrate that shock so that the impulse gets mostly absorbed by the support, and not some other part of your structure, snapping it.
