In 1054 some Chinese astronomers noticed a new bright star in the constellation Taurus.
Some 972 years later that star looks like this from my back yard.
The Crab nebula, a supernova remnant created when a star much more massive than the Sun runs out of fuel. The core collapses into a neutron star and the energy released by that causes the outer layers to explode into space.
Not so great if you live there, very pretty from 6,500 light years away.
