this morning i am passing personal judgement on Romanian news outlets based on whether or not the news of ICE officers killing Renee Nicole Good is on the landing page right now or not
i'm fucking heartbroken to see how far bending the knee to the USA has decimated independent news reporting in my home
at this point, outlets that do not clearly and succinctly describe this murder are complicit in the dismantling of independent journalism as such
@catileptic most of the times it is because our media isn't transparent at all (we barely are better than the us in thr rsf index), and since most of the political parties that pay the media outlets are conservative and almost, just almost play on trump's liking (see the huge support of israel everywhere, like no media outlet calls israel for a genocide, they all say that it's a war), outlets usually avoid these subjects.
Tho i saw something on the tvr site and radio romania (i follow them bcus imho they are the most balanced, because the boards are formed with proposals from all the political parties so there's some balance)
the governing coalition could, if they wanted to, apply already-existing legislation on the transparency demands when it comes to how political parties use state funds for media
they could regulate themselves, because the laws are already there
but the gambling industry also plays an important role in eroding press independence. the ownership structures of "daily news" publications has shifted in 2025.
Libertatea and G4 media are to examples of sad stories.
