#OnThisDay, 14 Nov 1917, US suffragists held at the Occoquan Workhouse are assaulted by the guards, at the order of the supervisor. The “Night of Terror” galvanises support for the women.

In March 1918, the DC Court of Appeals declares that the suffragist arrests had been unconstitutional.
