#TimWalz has twice mentioned the #protests that followed the #murder of #GeorgeFloyd by a #Minneapolis #police officer in 2020, & lessons learned from that experience. The governor was criticized by some for not mobilizing the #NationalGuard more quickly at the time.

Bob Jacobson, the commissioner of the #Minnesota Dept of #PublicSafety, said a #state law enforcement agency was working with the #FBI to investigate the #shooting.

#DHS ofcls said the #shooting occurred as agents were conducting “targeted operations” & were confronted by protesters. Tricia McLaughlin, an agency propagandist, said in a statement that a woman had “weaponized her vehicle” & tried to kill federal officers. [this statement will likely to turn out to be false]

The federal government’s description of the encounter could not immediately be verified independently. Rep #IlhanOmar, a #Democrat whose congressional district includes the shooting scene, described the person as a “legal observer.”

Hundreds of people gathered at the scene, chanting for #ICE agents to leave. The #shooting took place in a middle-class residential neighborhood in #Minneapolis, about a mile from the place where #GeorgeFloyd was killed by #police in 2020.

The official plaque honoring the #police who defended #democracy that day is nowhere to be found.

It’s not on display at the Capitol, as is required by #law. Its whereabouts aren’t publicly known, though it’s believed to be in storage.
