A beautiful and poignant sculpture on one side of the base of an otherwise plain obelisk in the Necorpolis in Glasgow. The only words on this memorial are 'Beloved Mother', and the name G. Mossman, one of the city's finest sculptors. Some determined digging by the historian Diane Burns, means we can now put a name to this particular mother: Agnes Strang.

What looks like part of a wall of carefully shaped and fitted stones at Duncarnock Fort on the southern edge of Glasgow (with a spaniel added to the lower photograph for scale). Built on the remains of an extinct volcano, this late bronze age/iron age hillfort is thought to have been occupied between 1200 BC and AD 400 (and possibly as late as AD 700).
