Beneath a deep blue cloudless sky we are walking along the crest of a mountain through a sun-drenched forest of hardwoods ablaze in dazzling golds, yellows and oranges. The forest floor is a liberally strewn with boulders and stones and clusters of golden brown grass. This is all softened by a colorful blanket of freshly fallen leaves. Through the trees we can see a valley several hundred feet below with a large pond, more autumn forest and a few buildings.

We are standing on the shore of a lake. A line of tall trees of varying heights runs across a narrow peninsula which stands between us and the rest of the lake. There is a low ridge behind them across the lake. Trees, peninsula and ridge are all silhouetted against the sunset. The sky is cloudy, but clearing along the western horizon. There is a patch of gold where the sun is setting. The bottoms of the clouds covering most of the sky are painted pink and blue violet. Trees and sky are reflected in the slightly rippled waters of the small cove in front of us.

Beneath a very pale blue sky about half filled with small puffy clouds, the sun has set behind a low wooded ridge across a large lake. Its rays are painting the bottoms of clouds near the horizon light yellow and pale pink. A rocky peninsula juts out into the lake from right to left in front of us, creating a small cove that mirrors the sky on its gently rippled surface. In the foreground are tall water grasses and leafy plants growing just offshore. A few trees and shrubs are growing along the top of the peninsula, the sides of which are mostly covered by dense leafy underbrush. I love reading what other hikers/backpackers pack for their hikes, but would love to read what other women bring. My feed seems to consist of mainly male hikers, but I would love to connect with more female hikers (especially those who are a bit older). Sometimes I feel like I'm the only woman in her late forties to do longer hikes which cannot be the case. I follow the #walking, #hiking and #backpacking hashtags but maybe I need to follow other hashtags.
I'll post my own packing list for my upcoming trips (Netherlands in April and Norway in summer) when I get closer to my trip date. Meanwhile, if you're a woman over forty doing multi-day hikes, please say hi!
