The first Sailfish Community News of the year is out!
Jolla and the Sailfish Community has been busy through the holidays, and we are getting closer and closer to the release of SailfishOS 5.1, and Jolla has given us a sneak peak of what is coming:
- AppSupport Bluetooth support
- AppSupport 13 (Android API level 33 compatibility) for all 64bit devices
And lots of 3rd party apps have been released or updated!

@nakal @AwetTesfaiesus @jolla @e_mydata @murena die Basisfunktionalität funktioniert bei #SailfishOS auch ohne Basteln, aber die Stärke ist, dass man Basteln kann.
Da fühle ich mich bei @e_mydata unrooted schon etwas eingeschränkt, dafür läuft dort eigentlich alles was ich benutzen möchez.
@schwakoviak @AwetTesfaiesus @jolla @e_mydata @murena Dass man basteln muss, ist mir neu. Ich bin davon ausgegangen, dass man ein stabiles System bekommt, das einfach läuft. Naja, ich sehe es wahrscheinlich im März.
Ich muss tatsächlich etwas hinzubasteln, damit es in meinem abgesicherten Netzwerk gut funktioniert, aber das wusste ich bereits vorher. Solche Ansprüche hat aber nicht jeder.

Das Betriebssystem und die Community sind Klasse.
Wenn Du basteln willst, ist das genau das richtige.
Wenn Dir aktuelle Software und reibungsloser Betrieb wichtig sind, würde ich davon abraten.
Bin seit knapp einem Jahr auf #FP5 mit @e_mydata von @murena und zufrieden damit.

@aplanteatingant I don't know SailfishOS first-hand yet, have no experience with it. I've considered doing it anyway and pay for the C2, but in the end 550€ is too much money for something I don't know I'd actually enjoy. The Xperia 10 V is just an option because 200€ is considerably cheaper, and I know I could also flash it to /e/OS of which I know works well as daily driver for me.
@Natanox To get the best impression of what it's like to use a Sailfish OS smartphone, I would recommend getting a used Xperia 10 III first. It is the last Xperia model officially supported by #Jolla. I'm really unsure which phone I should aim for…
- Fairphone 6: Best repairability, long-term support, the ecological option but not perfectly secure
- Pixel 9 or 10: Highest security (even against cops) but questionable repairability, awful manufacturer
- (Used) Sony Xperia 10 V: cheapest option, supports SailfishOS (yolo!)
I really wish @Fairphone would make a phone that meets the high standards of Graphene and Calyx to really tick all the boxes.

Allright, then you have mor experience than me. For my use of Android apps it is fast enough, but I try to avoid these apps as good as I can.

I had an unfair advantage as I worked for Jolla from 2012-2015 😊 Even after leaving Jolla, I usually have at least one device running Sailfish (Jolla C, Xperia X, Fxtec Pro1, Jolla C2) as a secondary device. My main (work) device runs Android as we use Google Workspace with mobile device security. I've also tried Ubuntu Touch, Lineage and other AOSP derivatives but always came back to #SailfishOS. With the right HW it's brilliant!
