I just built some new #postmarketOS duranium (immutable) images with coldbrew in them now. If you're playing around with it: `updatectl update`
Yesterday evening I geeked on @postmarketOS and installed u-boot and a brand new version of postmarketOS on an "old" 2011 android 4.0 tablet. So happy to see this device with new up to date software 🤩🎉
From the ominous "Leave everything to us" to fully(*) working Linux in about 12 hours… #postmarketOS Trailblazer coming to a QC710 devkit/miniPC near you \o/
Should've taken even less because it's mostly "take a laptop device tree and delete most things", but the whole USB/DP/HDMI situation was a bit trickier than that. See, this sc7180 ( #Snapdragon 7c) is an old Chromebook SoC.. Already calling itself a "compute platform", but it's still basically a phone SoC. All it has for fast I/O is one single 4-lane combo USB3/DP PHY. (Because phones only have one port!) And, well, MIPI DSI for internal displays. The laptops use DSI-to-eDP bridge chips, keeping the combo free to properly support a USB-C port with alt mode. This mini PC… doesn't have an internal display (duh). What does it do? DSI is routed to /dev/null, the combo PHY is permanently in 2+2 mode, with 2 DP lanes routed to a DP-to-HDMI bridge, and 2 SuperSpeed lanes routed to the single blue USB-A 3.0 port. As you could imagine, this is very "fun" for OS bringup… when you start touching the combo PHY but don't yet have the display pipeline set up, the initial framebuffer display is poof! Gone as soon as the PHY driver attaches :)
(*) the display is flickering because it fails to set the pixel clock, ancient bug I'm told, evidently "fixed by having newer hardware lol" but I should look into it I guess. I mostly wanted this as a server anyway? Buut.. it's kinda better as a client.. Compared to a Pi 5, same CPU situation but much better GPU and WiFi
Open poll, please just reply (and mention your OS): What is your favorite #LinuxMobile app?

Coldbrew (formerly "iced") has been added to the Alpine package repos by @fossdd and will now be included in #postmarketOS duranium immutable images, allowing you to install and use anything from the Alpine package repos without modifying your real rootfs!
It works on regular Alpine installs too of course, if you want to manage software per-user or without needing root access

And folks, just a friendly reminder, this is the only proper way to update your smartphone.

Thanks to @craftyguy my "iced" tool has seen some nice improvements, notably switching from mkosi-sandbox to bubblewrap.
Iced lets you install and run any software from the Alpine package repos without root, it's designed for use on immutable systems like the new postmarketOS Duranium

In the mobile settings app the conf-tweaks handling gained a sysfs backend completing the implementation of the #postmarketOS tweaks. This will allow to cut down on the number of settings apps in @postmarketOS .
3/x
Thanks to @newbyte's efforts and @agx's reviewing, everything relevant from the "postmarketOS tweaks" app has been integrated into Phosh Mobile Settings so that we were able to sunset the legacy app in postmarketOS edge and have one less settings app in total! 🎉
As a bonus, Phosh Mobile Settings now has a generic conf-tweaks interface that can be used to add other custom settings with config files as well!
Details in the edge post:
